Almost The Whole City - Trailer
CONCEPT
On the third week of January each year, we celebrate the birthday of Arrowhead Church and the things God has done through the church in the years since. This year, the church's 6th birthday, we wanted a video that would catalyst our vision for 2015:
Almost the Whole City
The vision of our church is that almost the whole region of East Tennessee would gather to hear to word of the Lord; that they would have a hunger for the Gospel like never before. It's a vision that will take many churches and a lot of prayer.
Ben and I met in November to discuss the message he wanted captured in the video and I came out of it with two main points:
- Our prayer is that what happened in Acts 13:36-52 would happen here
- Every moment of the last few years at Arrowhead was just the beginning
The thing is, this spring Almost the Whole City will become a stewardship campaign for Arrowhead as we move into the next phase of our church. The specifics of that plan won't be made public until May - so we wanted this video to be a teaser of what's to come.
Production
As much as I wanted to write something really artistic for this video, I kept coming back to the passage of Acts as the foundation of this vision. Ben agreed, we should read the passage from Acts 13 in the video. That's exactly what we did - the video opens with a guy reading Acts 13 and then everything else builds from there. Scripture is the foundation.
I shot most of this video over the course of a month with the help of many different people. Even on New Year's Eve, Todd Turpin (an incredible creative professional and friend) and I were outside in the cold shooting some of the aerial footage for this video (which is why the streets look so empty). Somehow, Todd and I always film in the cold- I have no idea how it happens, but that's been the case for years. That's the kind of upstanding people I get to work with on a daily basis - people who truly care about the church and the spread of the gospel to film an empty city in the cold on a holiday. I could not have made this video without Todd, and he's such a solid guy to have around.
The music was composed by Ryan Taubert, a phenomenal independent composer we licensed through TheMusicBed. The name of the song we licensed? Rival. So perfect.
I edited the Bible reading portion of the video first, without music, and then laid the song underneath it. I marked the moments in the song that text would display and then filled in the gaps with footage. I added in the old sermon footage in the middle of the video and then color grading the whole thing. The edit took about 12 hours.
I am really happy with the way this video turned out.
